The AVA cardigan is a classic cardigan with a simple color gradient and wide balloon sleeves.
The decorative V-neckline at the back is a particular highlight of this style.

The AVA V Cardigan is knitted from top to bottom, in one piece. No sewing is necessary in the construction, and instructions for the pretty color gradient are detailed in the pattern.
You will start with a small back neckband panel, then pick up a few stitches for the back piece from the long side of the panel and work the back piece in back and forth with regular increases. You will then work straight to the depth of the armholes.
You will work each of the front pieces separately, from stitches picked up on the back piece. The stitches from the back neckband panel will be integrated into the front piece for the front neckline.
You will join the front and back pieces under the armhole and work the body in one piece to the end.
The sleeves are worked in the round, from stitches picked up around the armhole.
The body is finished with classic 1 x 1 ribs, and the sleeves are cuffed with a simple I-cord hem, creating the balloon sleeves.
The top-down construction allows for all the lengths to be adjusted to individual measurements. If you think you want longer measurements, plan for extra yarn.

PATTERN and KNITTING GAUGE
In Stocking St, with 4 strands held together of “Pearl Mohair“ from MAJO
Note/Tip: my purl rows are sometimes looser than my knit rows, so I use a smaller needle size for the purl rows in order to get an even stitch pattern. The sleeves are worked in the round using only knit stitches, and only one needle size.
- 9 mm needles for the RS and 8 mm needles for the WS, or needle sizes to achieve gauge:
11 sts x 14 rows = 10 x 10 cm - 9 mm needles to work in the round, or needle size to achieve gauge:
12 sts x 15 rows = 10 x 10 cm
