OVERVIEW

The Big MILLA Vest is a simple sleeveless, open-front vest with a striking edge pattern.

You will work from top to bottom, beginning with the back neckband.

Next, you will cast on new stitches for the shoulders of the back piece and pick up stitches along the long side of the back neckband, so that the band is directly integrated into the neckline edges.

You will pick up stitches for the front pieces from the shoulders of the back piece, incorporating the band to the edges. The front pieces are then shaped with increases for the V-neck.

You’ll work the back and front pieces are worked separately to the depth of the armholes, at which point you will join them on the same needle and work the body as one piece.

All the edges – neckline, armholes and hem – are worked in slipped stitch rib.

STITCH PATTERN AND KNITTING GAUGE

Garter Stitch

Yarn suggestion 1 with a 12 mm needle, yarn suggestion 2 with a 10 mm needle, or choose the appropriate needle size to meet the gauge:

10 sts x 17 rows = 10 x 10 cm

When knitting with a 10 mm needle, use an 8 mm needle (2 mm smaller than the main needle) to pick up stitches.

YARN REQUIREMENTS

Yarn suggestion 1

1 strand of „Amira“ (100m/50g, 93% cotton, 7% polyamide) in Lilac 107 by Lang Yarns

held together with

1 strand of „Cashmere Light“ (85m/25g, 88% cashmere, 12% polyamide) in Lavender 145 by Lang Yarns

(Note: Hand wash cold; if using a washing machine, make sure to adjust the temperature from 30°C to cold!)

Yarn suggestion 2

5 strands of “Mohair Luxe” (175m/20g, 77% mohair, 23% silk) in “Sea Foam” 172 by Lang Yarns

Basic yardage (total knitted meters)

374 (403) 434 (469) 516 (572) 630 m

Yarn amounts for Yarn suggestion 1 (2 strands held together 0.79 g/m)

1 strand of “Amira” 200 (200) 250 (250) 300 (300) 350 g

held together with

1 strand of “Cashmere light” 125 (125) 150 (150) 175 (175) 200 g

Yarn amounts for Yarn suggestion 2 (5 strands held together 0,71 g/m)

”Mohair Luxe” 275 (300) 325 (350) 375 (425) 450 g

To calculate the yarn quantity required when using other alternative yarns, use the following formula:

Base yardage for your size / meterage of each yarn ball * Number of strands = Number of balls

e.g., for a yarn that has 210m/25g, for a size M, with 6 strands held together:

434 m / 210 m * 6 strands = 12.4 balls = rounded up to 13 balls

Note that when you knit with multiple strands, the last ball may need to be wound according to the number of strands.

NEEDLES

Circular knitting needles for Yarn suggestion 1: 10 and 12 mm or, for Yarn suggestion 2: 8 and 10 mm.

Each 60/80 – 100 cm long, depending on the size you are working.
