OVERVIEW

The JUNA V Neck is a classic V-neck sweater/vest in half-brioche stitch. This sweater can be knitted in several variations, with or without sleeves. It is worked from the top down, in one piece, and no sewing is necessary.

You will start with the narrow back panel, then cast on stitches for the back piece, and begin shaping the back of the neck and the shoulders with short rows. You will then work down to the depth of the armholes.

You will work each of the front pieces separately from stitches picked up on the back piece, and the stitches from the back band are integrated into the front pieces, so that the band for the front neckline is incorporated directly. The short rows are worked in opposite direction to the back piece, with additional increases for the V-neck. The back and front pieces are then joined under the arms and the body is worked as one piece in the round.

The sleeves are optional and are worked in the round, from stitches picked up around the armhole. All edges are finished with an I-cord bind-off.

For this sweater you have the choice to knit with 2 or 3 threads held together, with the ‘smooth’ (right side of the half-brioche) or the ‘textured’ (wrong side of the half-brioche) side showing. You can also choose between a single or split hem and narrow or wide/balloon sleeves. Two possible combinations of these variations are shown in pattern sketches 1 and 2. However, all variations are interchangeable, allowing you to create your own unique design.

Fit 2 out of 5

Difficulty 4 out of 5

(Top-Down, Half-brioche stitch, German short rows for the ‘smooth’ half-brioche stitch, Wrap and Turn short rows for the ‘textured’ half-brioche stitch)

PATTERN AND GAUGE

STITCH PATTERN

Smooth or textured half-brioche stitch with yarn overs.

‘Smooth’ and ‘textured’ refer to the appearance of the stitch on the right side of the garment. The ‘smooth’ half-brioche stitch shows a flatter, knit-stitch-dominant side (as seen in the purple vest), while the ‘textured’ half-brioche stitch has a more pronounced, purl-stitch-dominant side (as seen in the yellow sweater).

You can find a detailed description of both stitch pattern variations in rows and in rounds at the end of the abbreviations section, on page 6.

KNITTING GAUGE

In half-brioche stitch, holding 3 threads together (with yarn suggestion 1), 2 threads together (with yarn suggestion 2):

on 6 mm needles, or needle size to match the gauge: 13 stitches x 26 rows = 13 brioche rows = 10 x 10 cm

Note that one brioche row (visible as one knit stitch on the RS) corresponds to two rows or rounds.

YARN REQUIREMENTS

Variant 1 (Vest)
Yarn suggestion 1 with 2 threads of „Mohair Luxe“ (175m/25g) in Violet 346 and 1 strand of „Cashmere Dreams“ in Violet 047 (290m/25g) by Lang Yarns

Variant 2 (Sweater)
Yarn suggestion 2 with 2 threads of „Mohair Luxe“ (175m/25g) in Yellow 114 or Reseda Green 192 by Lang Yarns

The total yarn requirements for each variant is always given according to yarn suggestions 1 and 2 (including swatch sample):

Basic yardage = knitted meters

Vest, without sleeves 465 (500) 528 (572) 622 (662) 713 m

Sweater, with sleeves 690 (737) 782 (844) 918 (985) 1062 m

Yarn Suggestion 1 (3 threads of yarn = 0.37 g/m)

Vest, without sleeves

2 threads of Mohair Luxe (175 m/25 g) 150 (150) 150 – 175 (175) 200 (200) 225 g

Held together with

1 strand of Cashmere Dreams (290 m/25 g) 50 (50) 50 (50) 75 (75) 75 g

Sweater, with sleeves

2 threads of Mohair Luxe (175 m/25 g) 200 (225) 225 (250) 275 (300) 325 g

together with

1 strand of Cashmere Dreams (290 m/25 g) 75 (75) 75 (75) 100 (100) 100 g

Yarn Suggestion 2 (2 threads of yarn = 0.28 g/m)

See Yarn Suggestion 1, but with only Mohair Luxe (excluding Cashmere Dreams)

To calculate the yarn requirements for alternative yarns, use the following formula:

Basic yardage / length of your yarn in m * Number of threads held together = Number of yarn balls required

For example, to work a size M sweater with 3 threads held together with a yarn measuring 210m/25g, you will need:

782 m / 210 m * 3 threads = 11.2 balls, rounded up to 12 balls

NEEDLES

Circular knitting needles: 5 and 6 mm, 40 and 60/80-100 cm long, depending on the garment size

Double-pointed needles: 6 mm

NOTIONS
